Deputy Minister Kozak's Visit to Kenya Opens Up Further Opportunities for Cooperation in East Africa

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jiří Kozák visited Kenya from 22 to 24 April, accompanied by a delegation of representatives of Czech medical institutions.

On the first day, Deputy Minister Kozák officially launched a project providing neonatology care equipment for the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital in Mombasa and handed over a pledged cash donation in the total amount of 9.782 million Czech crowns. "We discussed with Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir new opportunities for cooperation not only in the health sector, but also in the fields of innovation, cybersecurity, space technology and tourism. On this occasion, the Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Medical Devices signed a Memorandum of Understanding with its partner Africa Health Business," said Deputy Kozák.

Deputy Kozák also met with his counterparts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health. Together with Dr. Abraham K. SingOei, First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diasporas and H. Kachuwai Kimtai, First Deputy Minister for Health Affairs of Kenya, discussed prospective topics for further development of bilateral relations and economic cooperation.

Kenya is a key player in Africa not only in regional security but also in climate diplomacy. "Prospective topics for cooperation include health, including a comprehensive approach to maternal and child care, the use of innovative technologies in transport, smart agriculture and effective adaptation to climate change using data collection from satellites in low earth orbit, and digital and cyber security," explained Deputy Kozák. "During the political consultations, we also addressed geopolitical topics, especially Russian aggression against Ukraine, the need for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Sudan or the Middle East, and multilateral cooperation. Our partners also appreciated the efforts of Czech experts from the Dvůr Králové Zoo to save the northern white rhinos in Africa and Kenya," Kozák added.
