On Wednesday 6 March in Bruges, Belgium, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports Ondřej Andrys, the Supreme State Secretary Jindřich Fryč and the Rector of the College of Europe Federica Mogherini signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between Czechia and the College of Europe.
"I am very pleased that thanks to the exemplary cooperation of several ministries we have managed to expand the range of potential candidates for studying at the prestigious College of Europe. I hope that our country will become more and more successful in the field of placing Czechs in EU institutions," said State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radek Rubeš.
The Memorandum is the formal conclusion of negotiations between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of the Interior, the Office of the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. As a result of the national negotiations, among other things, three scholarships for Czech applicants will be funded annually. From the original two places, the College of Europe is now offering five places for Czech students. The scholarships will be provided from the budget of the Concept of Preparation of Czechs for Selection Procedures for European Union Institutions, which is also implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Graduating from the College of Europe is considered a gateway not only to the institutions of the European Union, but also to other international organisations. This year's edition, whose patron is Madeleine Albright, was inaugurated in October by President Petr Pavel. During his visit to the College of Europe, the President also pointed out the low number of Czech students and his interest in increasing their representation at this prestigious educational institution.
