Czechia will abstain in today’s vote in the UN General Assembly on the endorsement of the declaration resulting from the International Conference for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Conference took place from 28 to 30 July 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, under the leadership of France and Saudi Arabia.
Czechia has long supported a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that would lead to the creation of two states – Israel and Palestine – living side by side in peace, security, and mutual recognition. We therefore welcome the fact that, through this declaration, Arab states have for the first time condemned the Hamas attack of 7 October 2023 and called for the disarmament of Hamas and its withdrawal from Gaza. The declaration also includes some pragmatic proposals for the future governance of the Palestinian territories. However, the declaration was drafted without the involvement of one of the parties – Israel – which has long been a requirement of Czechia for any viable two-state solution. The only path to lasting peace and stability in the region is through direct negotiations and an agreement between both parties to the conflict. Czechia remains ready to support any effort that brings both sides back to the negotiating table and advances the peace process.
