Czechia Appoints New Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe

Kristýna Najmanová, a lawyer and career diplomat, has been appointed Head of the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Ambassador Najmanová succeeds diplomat Petr Válek in the post.

“Kristýna Najmanová is among our experienced diplomats in the field of multilateral cooperation and European institutions. I am pleased that she represents the Czech Republic in the Council of Europe, which plays a key role in protecting human rights, democracy and the rule of law,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský.

Ambassador Najmanová has served in Czech diplomacy since 2007. Her home department at headquarters has been the EU Law Department, where between 2007–2011 and 2016–2025 she worked as a legal adviser, chaired the Working Group on General Issues of Community Law, and later served as Director of the Department.

The new Permanent Representative also has experience abroad: in 2011–2016 she dealt with legal affairs at the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the European Union in Brussels.
