Statement of the MFA on the situation in Hong Kong

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is deeply concerned by Beijing's arbitrary decision, which on 11 November, 2020, led to the disqualification of several pro-democracy members of the Hong Kong Legislative Council. These steps, which are in breach of China's international obligations to Hong Kong, constitute further blow on its autonomy, political pluralism and the freedoms guaranteed by the One Country, Two Systems principle. The Czech Republic is actively participating in the EU debate on further steps to support the preservation of Hong Kong's autonomy and freedoms for its citizens.
