The Czech Republic warmly welcomes the general peace agreement between the Government of Sudan and the southern opposition movement SPLM/A, signed on 9th January 2005 in Nairobi.

The Czech Republic highly appreciates the good will of both sides, which has led to the end of the longest civil war in Africa.

The Czech Republic also appreciates the indispensable efforts of mediators during the negotiations. The Czech Republic hopes, that the general peace agreement will be implemented without delay and will become the basis for a durable peace solution of other conflicts, especially in Darfur and East Sudan.
