The Conference on 14 July 2022 in The Hague was hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Wopke Hoekstra, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim A.A. Khan QC and EU Commissioner Didier J.L. Reynders. The Conference covered many specific topics of cooperation in order to put an end to impunity of crimes committed in Ukraine.
The Conference confirmed the importance of the support provided to the International Criminal Court, which exercises its jurisdiction in the situation. At the same time, the assistance of States to the Ukrainian national organs aiming at enhancing their capacity to investigate the respective crimes, is of utmost importance.
Participants of the Conference highlighted the necessity to carry out documentation activities related to crimes under international law in a manner that does not negatively affect future evidence collection or accountability efforts by national or international authorities. We also need to need to refrain from secondary victimization of witnesses and victims, even more important in cases of sexual and gender based crimes, and when dealing with children.
