Minister Petříček received Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization Gurry

The official visit of Francis Gurry is taking place on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Czech Industrial Property Office. Minister Petříček highlighted the importance of multilateral diplomacy in the Czech foreign policy and explained the responsibility and coordination role of the MFA in the membership of the Czech Republic in international organizations. The Czech Republic supports the leadership and activities of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in the area of the law of intellectual property and in developing and improving the effective tools to guarantee the respective rights.
WIPO, seated in Geneva, is one of the oldest specialized agencies of the United Nations, established in 1967 by the Convention Establishing the WIPO. Its aim is to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world through cooperation among States and, where appropriate, in collaboration with any other international organization. Nowadays, WIPO has 192 Member States.
