The Czech Republic supported early activation of jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over the crime of aggression

The 16th session of the Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statue of the International Criminal Court (ASP ICC) takes place from 4 to 14 December 2017 in New York.
Head of the Czech delegation, Director of International Law Department of the MFA, Mr. Petr Válek addressed the ASP with the national statement on 7 December 2017, in which he expressed strong support of the Czech Republic for the early activation of the jurisdiction of the ICC over the crime of aggression. He further stressed the need to uphold the full cooperation of States with the ICC and informed about the continuing Czech voluntary contributions to the Trust Fund for Victims.
The Assembly elected six new judges from Benin, Canada, Italy, Japan, Peru and Uganda. In addition, Mr. O-GonKwon from Republic of Korea has been elected as the new President of the ASP, starting his three years term together with 20 new members of the ASP Bureau. The 16th session of the ASP will be further dedicated to the regular agenda items, including the cooperation with the ICC or the amendments to the legal framework governing the activities of the ICC.
