Special Envoy Krátký Met with New MP for Czech Community in Romanian Parliament

The Special Envoy for Expatriate Affairs, Jiří Krátký, met with the first ever Deputy in the Romanian Parliament for the independent Czech compatriot minority in Romania, Štefan Bouda. The meeting took place in the Czernin Palace on 21 January 2025. In the past, Mr. Bouda also held the position of Vice-Chairman of the Czech section of the Democratic Union of Slovaks and Czechs in Romania (UDSČR) and Chairman of the Forum of Czechs in Romania.

Mr. Bouda informed Special Envoy Krátký about the developments in the compatriot community in the Romanian Banat in recent months. Mr. Krátký was interested in the turbulent developments in the Czech community between August 2024 and the December parliamentary elections.

Special Envoy Krátký was pleased that after many years, Banat Czechs had succeeded in obtaining an autonomous minority status, which is crucial for the representation of their interests within the traditionally "Czech" region of Romanian Banat. He mentioned that in 2023 the Czechs celebrated 200 years since their arrival in the region.

Štefan Bouda thanked Mr. Krátký for the warm welcome and the Czech governmental institutions for their cordial and long-term support. Mr. Bouda concluded that this visit to Prague was very beneficial because he had several important meetings here (the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Romanian Embassy in Prague and other institutions).
