The Czech Beseda Zagreb commemorated the 150th anniversary of founding this year. The extraordinary anniversary celebration was partially celebrated in Prague.
n 20 September, a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Czech Beseda Zagreb took place in the Wallenstein Garden in Prague´s Lesser Town, accompanied by a musical performance by its ensembles. The event was held under the auspices of the Deputy President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Mr. Tomáš Czernin, who opened it in the presence of the Ambassador of Croatia in Prague, H.E. Mrs. Ljiljana Pancirov.
The performance included a mixed choir Bohemia, folklore group Jetelíček, and former pupils of the Czech School Zagreb who recited poems inspired by the dual homeland of Croatian Czechs. The colourful and lively performance in the historical scenery of the Wallenstein Palace was very successful with Czech and foreign visitors to the garden.
The Czech Beseda Zagreb was founded in 1874 as a cultural and educational association of Czechs in Zagreb. Its first chairman was Josef Václav Frič, a writer, journalist and politician living in Croatia in political exile after the revolutionary events of 1848. Currently, the association has several sections, where members are involved in theatre, folklore, singing, as well as hiking and mountaineering.
