FAMILY MEMBERS OF EU CITIZENS

A family member of an EU/CZ citizen can only apply for a short-term (Schengen) visa at the Czech Embassy abroad. Any application for temporary residence is submitted on the territory of the Czech Republic at the locally relevant office of the Department of OAMP of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic.

A family member of an EU citizen is

  1. spouse
  2. parent who looks after the EU citizen who is younger than 21
  3. direct descendant who is under the age of 21 or such a child of a spouse of the EU citizen
  4. dependent direct relative in the ascending or descending line

Any other foreign national is also considered a family member of an EU citizen who proves that

1. He/she is a relative of the EU citizen who

               a. in the country from which he/she has come or in the country in which he/she was a permanent or long-term resident, was a member of a common household of the EU citizen before his/her entry to the Czech Republic or

               b. was dependent on the EU citizen for sustenance,

2. due to serious health grounds he/she strictly requires the personal care of the EU citizen,

3. He/she has a durable relationship with the EU citizen and shares with him/her a common household.

REQUIRMENTS AND SUPPORITNG DOCUMENTS

1. APPLICATION FORM (filled in capital letters, sign by the applicant or by legal guardian in case the applicant is younger than 15 years old)

2. VALID PASSPORT (original and copy of passport)

3. BIOMETRICS (PHOTOGRAPH, FINGERPRINTS)

Photograph Recent photo, dimensions: 3,5cm x 4,5cm, with full face in view, white background

Fingerprints Fingerprints of applicants older than 12 are collected

4. DOCUMENTS ATTESTING TO EXISTENCE OF THE EU CITIZEN (copy of the EU citizen´s identity card or passport)

5. DOCUMENT ATTESTING THAT YOU ARE A FAMILY MEMBER OF THE EU CITIZEN 

An original or a certified copy (in case the original or a certified copy cannot be documented, it is necessary that the application be submitted as a standard application for a short-term visa, with no preference for family members

  • In the case of marriage, it is necessary to present the original, or a certified copy of the marriage certificate issued by the Special Registry Office in Brno, with which the applicant proves that he/she is a family member of an EU citizen
  • In other cases, the original or an officially certified copy of Czech, or a Pakistani/Afghan registry document or documents, or other documents that will prove the status of a family member of an EU citizen

6. DOCUMENT PROVING THE FACT THAT A FAMILY MEMBER FOLLOWS A CITIZEN OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC/EU (e.g. joint ticket, declaration of a citizen of the Czech Republic/EU, etc.)

7. FEE IS NOT APPLICABLE

Outsourcing company (VFS – Gerry´s Visa Centre) might have additional service fee – 17 EUR.

NOTE: At the discretion of the applicant, the application can also be supported by additional supporting documents or photo documentation proving the duration and weight of the relationship with the EU/CZ citizen.

Submitted documents must be officially translated into Czech or English. The originals of the documents that the applicant intends to keep must be submitted both in the original and in a copy (including the data page of the passport). If necessary, the Consular and Visa Section will request additional documents.

VISA APPLICATION DECISION

The deadline for processing the application of a family member of an EU citizen who is not an EU citizen him/herself is 14 days from the date of submission of the application. However, this period can be extended to 45 days in justified cases.

NOTE: The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Islamabad is authorized to carry out an investigation in order to prove whether any of the reasons for visa refusal listed in § 20, paragraph 5 of the Act on the Residence of Foreigners is not given.
