Jiří Bárta & Son, Violoncellos

Cellists Jiří and Josef Bárta gave concerts in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad in the last week of October 2022. Their final performance, held on the occasion of the Czech National Day, was a charity event and the proceeds were donated to the people affected by the floods that hit Pakistan in July and August.

Cello virtuoso Jiří Bárta toured the three cities of Pakistan together with his son Josef who plays the same instrument. In Karachi, they performed at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), in Lahore at Kinnaird College and in Islamabad at Serena Hotel. Besides their joint performance of classical pieces by Gabriel Fauré, Jean-Louis Duport and William H. Squire, in which a masterful interplay of the budding soloist with his father's accompaniment was particularly appreciated, Jiří Bárta enchanted the audience with intriguing contemporary works by Marek Kopelent and Zoltán Kodály. In addition to performing on stage, Jiří Bárta spent time with students of music at NAPA and the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore. His encounter with NCA teachers and students resulted in a joint improvisation which made the second half of the Islamabad concert on the eve of the National Day of the Czech Republic. The "Classical and Fusion Cello Concert" and a following reception was organized in cooperation of the Embassy with the Serena Hotel and the proceeds from ticket sales were donated to support people affected by the floods. The tour and performances of the cello duo has been co-hosted by the honorary consuls of the Czech Republic in Karachi and Lahore and kindly supported by Dawn Bread and Emirates.
