On 11 October 2022, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki organized a visit of ambassadors and other representatives of the embassies of EU Member States to the factory of Škoda Transtech in Otanmäki, part of the Škoda Group. The company manufactures trains and trams, which are operated in Helsinki and Tampere.
Škoda Group Region North focuses mainly on the Finnish market, but expansion into other European countries is currently underway. Škoda has developed a special version of the Arctic tram, which has increased durability and is designed for the harsh Nordic climate. The new Jokeri tram line, with special extended trainsets, will also have its own technical specifics and will be connecting the city of Helsinki with neighbouring Espoo. Both Helsinki and Tampere are experiencing a boom in tramway development during this decade, with tram lines in Helsinki alone expected to triple in length by the end of 2030. In addition to production of rolling stock, Škoda Group Region North wants to focus more on development, and is working on a fully autonomous tram project.
