EU HoMs' lunch with Minister for Foreign Affairs

On 14 September 2022, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki hosted a working lunch between ambassadors of the EU Member States and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto in the framework of the Czech EU Presidency. Ukrainian Ambassador Olga Dibrova attended the lunch as a guest speaker. The main topic was Russian aggression against Ukraine and European security.

At the beginning of the meeting, Czech Ambassador Adam Vojtěch presented the outcomes of the last informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague, which was followed by the Forum for Ukraine. He also focused on the recent Energy Council and the issue of EU enlargement. In addition to Russian aggression against Ukraine, the energy crisis and Finland's NATO accession process were the dominant topics of Minister Haavisto and Ambassador Dibrova's speeches.

Subsequent discussions between the guests and the EU ambassadors focused on the issue of tourist visas for Russian citizens and the possibility of an EU-wide solution, sanctions against Russia, the energy crisis, the ratification of Finland's accession to NATO and the reconstruction of Ukraine in different time horizons. Another topic was Finland's preparations for NATO membership, which will build on the previous long-term enhanced partnership between Finland and Sweden with the Alliance and which Finland does not want to limit in any way in terms of substance or geographical scope.
