This year's theme of the UN campaign is Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now! Czechia is committed to eliminate the violence against women. In 2019, governmental Action Plan against Domestic and Gender-based Violence 2019-2022. The plan focuses on prevention, help and support for victims and access to legal aid for everyone.

Elimination of gender-based violence and support for victims is also one of the key priorities of Gender Equality Strategy 2021-2030 adopted this year by the Czech government. The strategy aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence, lower the tolerance of violence and improve the safety of women in public and cyber space. The accessibility of support for victims shall be strengthen as well as sufficient resources for support services. Safeguarding systemic solutions such as coordination, access to data and training and raising of political support of the topic are crucial.

Czechia also supports gender equality in international organizations and actively opposes violence against girls and women, including sexual violence in armed conflicts. Czechia supports activities of UN WOMEN and follows EU guidelines concerning violence against women and combat against all forms of discriminations.

This year, Czechia supported the Resolution on accelerating efforts to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls: preventing and responding to all forms of violence against women and girls with disabilities, adopted at 47th session of UN Human Rights Council. Czechia also signed Joint Statement on the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan. Within The Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Czechia signed Joint Declaration supporting resolutions on gender, including commitment to eliminate sexual and gender-based violence.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the organization Nytkis (Coalition of Finnish Women’s Association) opened this year an exhibition called ‘Czech and Finnish Heroines Past and Present’ dedicated to brave and innovative Czech and Finnish women throughout history and sectors. The exhibition as well as the Orange the World campaign supports leading role of women and girls and their participation in decision-making and politics.
