New Head of Mission Assumes the Embassy

The diplomatic and local staff of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus welcomed Mr. Roman Masarik as new Head of Mission on 14 June 2024. Mr. Masarik, a seasoned Czech diplomat with over 30 years of experience, will lead the mission in supporting Czech-Syrian relations.

His predecessor Mr. Petr Kasicka concluded his successful tenure as Charge d'affaires and left Syria on 22 June 2024. Mr. Kašička was in charge of the Embassy from November 2023 when the previous Ambassador left Syria after 13 years of diplomatic duty. 


“I am honored to take on this important role,” said Mr. Masarik. “I look forward to working closely with the Syrian authorities, counterparts, and my colleagues from other countries of the European Union as well from the United States.“ 

„I would like that my mission is marked by achievements in strengthening Czech-Syrian relations, enhancing consular services, and supporting humanitarian aid initiatives funded by the Czech Government“, said Mr. Masarik. „I would like to thank to my predecessor Mr. Petr Kasicka, who during his time in Damascus demonstrated remarkable leadership and dedication. He seamlessly assumed the duties of managing the Embassy following the departure of Ambassador Plenipotentiary Mrs. Eva Filipi. Under his guidance, the Embassy not only continued to provide exemplary consular services but also expanded its role in humanitarian aid efforts.“

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus has a unique role, providing consular services to European citizens and overseeing US interests in Syria in accordance with international agreements.

Mr. Roman Masarik is entrusted with the management of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus as Charge d'affaires ad interim. He expects that under his leadership the Embassy's role in Syria will continue to be strong and that the Embassy will continue to provide consular services to an unchanged extent. Despite the challenging conditions prevailing in Syria, he is ready to support charitable and humanitarian activities. The Embassy will continue to foster strong bilateral relations and support the Syrian people in various forms.
