Members of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States visited the Bohemian National Hall

National Youth Orchestra of the USA is composed of winners of extensive federal auditions, which aim to form a symphony orchestra from talented American musicians in the age group 15-19 years. The members of this prestigious ensemble visited the Bohemian National Hall in New York on Friday July 15, 2016 in preparation for their European tour which will end on July 25 in Prague.
The members of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States are among the future elite of American musicians and a participation in this orchestra, which is sponsored by famous Carnegie Hall, is very prestigious. The National Youth orchestra began its tour on July 14 with a concert at the Carnegie Hall. On following day, twenty of its members visited the Bohemian National Hall in New York.
Students met with Deputy Consul General Karel Smékal, who appreciated students’ broad knowledge of Czech music and their interest in it. The highpoint of the tour was a visit of Antonin Dvorak’s room where the students were welcomed by the President of the American Association of Antonin Dvorak (DAHA) Ms. Majda Kallab Whitaker who told them about the period of Dvorak’s life that he spent in the US.
During its European tour, The National Youth Orchestra will perform on July 25 in Prague's Smetana Hall in the Municipal House, where under the baton of famous conductor Gergiev compositions by C. Debussy, F. Mendelssohn and Prokofiev will be presented.
