Czech Christmas traditions and products filled the Bohemian National Hall

(This article expired 13.12.2017 / 21:30.)

Czech Christmas spirit has dominated the Bohemian National Hall in New York past Sunday, December 11th. Visitors consisting of both expatriates and New Yorkers had the opportunity to listen to Czech carols, learn something about Czech Christmas customs and, last but not least, had a chance to shop from a selection of Czech companies selling traditional Christmas products.

Bohemian National Hall hosted the Annual Christmas market which included performances by Czech musicians led by mezzo-soprano Pavlina Horakova with the participation of children’s choir of the Czech-Slovak School in Astoria. This event attracted over two hundred and fifty visitors who enjoyed the Christmas concert, tasted homemade mulled wine with traditional Czech sweets and cookies.  And as every year the visitors did not miss an opportunity to see and pet the live carps.

The smallest visitors got involved in arts and crafts projects (making festive paper chains) and also enjoyed screening of short Christmas themed movies during the afternoon program.

Christmas market resonated well with the visitors as they enjoyed products of four Czech companies. This year, visitors could buy gifts from companies such as Antipearle (design jewelry combining precious metals with pearls), Glassor (traditional Czech Christmas decorations), Holík (Czech handmade de-luxe leather gloves) and the Slovak-Czech Varieties (seller of typical Czech food and sweets).

The Consulate General would like to thank all of you for successful cooperation during the 2016 and wishes Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2017!
