President of the Czech Republic attends the 4th Summit of the Council of Europe

President of the Czech Republic Mr. Petr Pavel attends the Council of Europe Summit, organised by the Icelandic Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, in Reykjavik on 16 and 17 May 2023. This is only the fourth Council of Europe Summit since the Council of Europe was founded in 1949. President Pavel will address the summit together with more than 50 representatives of other Council of Europe member and observer states, as well as international organisations. He also holds bilateral meetings with several of his counterparts during the summit.

The Summit is a historic opportunity for European leaders to reaffirm their shared commitment to the Council of Europe's core values and to refocus its mission in light of current threats to human rights and democracy. A priority theme of the Summit is to support Ukraine through concrete measures that will help achieve justice for the victims of Russian aggression. These measures include the creation of an enlarged partial agreement on the Register of Damages caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Czech Republic was a significant contributor to the creation of this partial agreement and is one of its founding members.
