On February 3, 2026, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago—together with colleagues from the CzechTrade office—had the honor of hosting the CITCA New Year Annual Meeting 2026. The gathering brought together members of the Chicago International Trade Commissioner’s Association (CITCA), an influential network supporting international business cooperation across the Midwest.
A distinguished guest joined this year’s event: Mr. Michael Frerichs, Illinois State Treasurer, who visited the Consulate as the meeting’s Special Guest Speaker. His participation underscored the strong and growing ties between Illinois and the international diplomatic and trade community.
Consul General Jakub Utěšený opened the event by welcoming all CITCA members and the Illinois State Treasurer. In his remarks, he highlighted a meaningful historical connection: The late Judy Baar Topinka, a legendary Czech American leader, served three terms as Illinois State Treasurer before becoming Illinois State Comptroller. Her legacy continues to symbolize the deep-rooted relationship between the Czech community and the State of Illinois. Consul General Utěšený emphasized the Consulate’s ongoing commitment to strengthening economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and partners across Chicago, the State of Illinois, and the broader Midwest region. Events like the CITCA Annual Meeting play a vital role in fostering dialogue, building networks, and supporting international trade initiatives.
A warm thank‑you goes out to all CITCA members who attended and contributed to the success of this year’s gathering.
