On the 27th October 2019, the day before our National Day, Ambassador Tomáš Dub attended the opening of an exhibition about the most significant Czechoslovak exile publication in Australia, the newspaper Hlas Domova, which took place in the Domov Gallery of the National House of Czech and Slovaks. The exhibition came from the collection of the Prague Library of Czechoslovak exile and samizdat literature, Libri Prohibiti. The newspaper was in publication from 1950 to 1979 and became popular outside of Australia as well.
During the celebratory opening, one of the last living member of the editorial team, Mr Aleš Nebeský, gave a speech and reminisced on the years when he took part in publishing Hlas Domova.
In light of the fact that this year marks 101 years since the declaration of an Independent Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic, the Melbourne exhibition remembered just how difficult a period our Republic went through, the trials and tribulations that her people endured, where they all ended up as a result of historical events and the solutions that they found.
