Congratulations to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort, from the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra.
The coronation of Charles III and his wife Camilla as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realm took place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. Charles had already ascended the throne on 8 September 2022 following the death of his mother Elizabeth II.
The ceremony included Charles' anointing, which symbolises his spiritual entry into the royal office, followed by his coronation and enthronement, which represent the assumption of temporal powers and responsibilities. Camilla was crowned in a shorter and simpler ceremony. After the ceremony, as expected, the royal family will march in procession to Buckingham Palace, where they will greet the people from the balcony. Charles and Camilla's coronation ceremony was shorter than his mother's coronation in 1953.
The coronation of Charles and Camilla was the first coronation of a British monarch in the 21st century and the 40th coronation at Westminster Abbey since the coronation of William I the Conqueror on 25 December 1066. Counting Harold's coronation, it was the 41st coronation in the Abbey.
