The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra organised a reception on 27 October 2023 to mark the Czechoslovak Independence Day.
The event was held at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra and was attended by about 150 guests from the diplomatic corps, members of the Australian government, business partners, compatriots and other partners and friends of our Embassy. The national anthems and toasts in honour of the Czech Republic and King Charles III were followed by a speech by Ambassador Jana Tyrer, who recalled the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak state and the ideas of T.G. Masaryk, which are intrinsically linked to the Czechoslovak First Republic, the importance and role of the expatriate community in Czech-Australian relations and the common values that the relations between our countries symbolize today. The Ambassador also highlighted the benefits of our accession to the European Union and the Czech Republic's clear position and support for Ukraine and Israel.
The reception was accompanied by a jazz quartet of Czech compatriot Mr. Miroslav Bukovsky, refreshments included Czech Pilsner beer and an exhibition of photographs depicting the historical and natural beauty of the Czech Republic. The exhibition was kindly lent by the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney.
