On Sunday, 26th May Czech Ambassador, Tomáš Dub, participated in the ceremonial presentation of commemorative medals and awards to Czech and Slovakian pilots.

The event took place in the Czech and Slovak Club in Brisbane on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Czechoslovak aviation in the presence of the Czech and Slovak Ambassadors in Australia as well as hundreds of other guests.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic welcomed all guests and ceremonially presented a commemorative plaque and medals, awarded posthumously to RAF pilots, to the club president, Mrs Stanislava Bilková. He also presented a jubilee medal, celebrating 100 years from the founding of Czechoslovakian aviation, to current aviators. The ceremony continued with the presentation of other awards, either in memoriam or directly into the hands of esteemed pilots, who attended the event in person. A complete list of those who received awards is available on the Facebook pages of the Czech and Slovak Club in Brisbane.

To bring a cultural element to the event, guests were graced with the voice of opera singer Hera Pinkasová.

During the ceremony, John Bucknell, from the Free Czech Air Force Association of England, gave a toast, led by a drummer from the British Queen’s Guard.
