The European Union Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Gabriele Visentin, together with Heads of Mission of EU Member States, including the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Ms Jana Tyrer, celebrated Europe Day and the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration with a formal reception held in the magnificent Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia.
Europe Day, observed annually on 9 May, is a celebration of peace, unity, and shared European values. This year’s occasion was marked by reflection on the historical legacy of European integration and an optimistic outlook towards a future rooted in common principles.
Several hundred distinguished guests attended the reception, including the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell, and the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ms Jan Adams AO PSM.
Musical accompaniment was provided by the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, which—like the European Union—is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
