Deputy Minister Kulhánek in Australia

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs  Jakub Kulhánek visited Australia for consultations on October 18-21, 2015.

In Canberra, he met Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ric Wells. They discussed possibilities of intensifying bilateral relations and exchanged views on international issues of mutual concern. Prior to the meeting, Deputy Minister Kulhánek had a short discussion withthe Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia Julie Bishop. Deputy Minister Kulhánek also held talks at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and the Department of Defence. He also met with representatives of prestigious Australian think tanks that focus on security and foreign affairs. In Sydney, Deputy Minister Kulhánek discussed economic cooperation with experts from the Europe-Australia Business Council.

The Czech Republic and Australia maintain good bilateral relations that are based on shared values, similar positions on a number of international issues and promising trade opportunities. In spite of significant geographical distance, both countries are dealing with similar challenges, including migration and support to refugees. Both countries are interested in finding solutions to situations in Ukraine and Syria.  

The Czech expatriate community in Australia ranks among the largest in the world.
