Celebration of a Centenary since the Establishment of Independent Czechoslovakia

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra together with the Embassy of Slovakia held a reception on 29th October 2018 on the occasion of 100th anniversary since the Declaration of an independent Czechoslovak state. In the presence of the Czech Chargé d'affaires, a.i. Ondřej Boháč and the Slovak Ambassador Igor Bártho, Czech, Slovak and Australian anthems were sung by a children's choir from Louny Primary Art School.
After the speeches of the Heads of Missions of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, children from Louny Primary Art School and the Australian Canberra Grammar School, together performed a traditional Czech song. The festive atmosphere of the unique building of the Old Parliament House was enhanced by the sound of jazz music played by Emil Viklický and Miroslav Bukovský during the course of the reception.
Over 200 guests from the ranks of diplomatic corps, current and former politicians, representatives of Czech and Australian organizations and compatriots enjoyed traditional refreshments in the form of Czech draft beer, Slovak wines and Prague ham.
This reception was a culmination of joint Czechoslovak celebrations and events which the Embassies organized together this year and which were related to the so-called “Common Century”.
