On July 4 the Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted the launch of Anna Rosenbaum´s book „The Safe House Down Under“, the story of Australia´s immigration policy towards the admission of Czechoslovak refugees trying to escape the Nazi regime.
Ondřej Boháč, Chargé d´Affaires a.i. of the Czech Republic to Australia, H.E. Igor Bartho, Ambassador of Slovakia to Australia, Prof. Timothy Bonyhady and Dr. James Jupp attended the event and launched the book together with its author Anna Rosenbaum. Members of the Jewish community, as well as members of the Czech and Slovak communities in Australia also attended the event and discussed one of the defining moments of the 20th century.
Anna Rosenbaum´s book presents a comprehensive study of relations between two distant countries during the turbulent years preceding and following the outbreak of the Second World War. The book is not only a timely reminder of the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Munich Agreement, but also a unique story of those who escaped from life-threatening situations and began their integration process into Australian society.
