
Ambassador Jana Tyrer presented her Letters of Credence in the Independent State of Samoa

On Tuesday, 6 May 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Australia and non-resident Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Independent State of Samoa, Ms Jana Tyrer, presented her credentials to the Head of State, His Highness Tuimalealiʻifano Va'aletoʻa Sualauvi II, during a ceremony held in the capital, Apia.
In her remarks, Ambassador Tyrer underscored the long-standing friendship between the Czech Republic and Samoa, highlighting shared values such as democracy, freedom, tolerance, and justice. She also acknowledged the two countries' joint commitment to promoting international peace, security, and prosperity, based on the principles of the multilateral system and the protection of human rights.
The presentation of credentials, issued by President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel, marked the official commencement of Ms Tyrer’s tenure as non-resident Ambassador to Samoa. She also delivered the letter of recall for her predecessor, His Excellency Tomáš Dub.
The Head of State, His Highness Va'aletoʻa Sualauvi II, expressed appreciation for the Czech Republic’s development activities through European Union projects and conveyed his interest in deepening cooperation, particularly in the areas of cybersecurity and development initiatives. Ambassador Tyrer confirmed the Czech Republic’s readiness to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations in trade, investment, security, and education.
During her visit, Ambassador Tyrer also met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa. Their discussion focused on cooperation in education and joint actions in tackling the impacts of climate change. The Prime Minister welcomed the European Union’s approach to environmental protection and waste management.
Further meetings were held with the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mrs Peseta Noumea Simi, where regional security and cybersecurity were the main topics of discussion. Ambassador Tyrer also held working meetings with the Minister for Commerce, Industry and Labour, the Minister for Communication, Information Technology, and the Minister for Education and Culture. She also met with the Leader of the Opposition and the Human Rights Protection Party, the Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, and the High Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand.
The official visit marks a significant step in strengthening mutual relations and deepening cooperation in areas of strategic interest to both countries.
