On 16th December, Zdeněk Hřib arrived in Budapest on the invitation of its Mayor Gergely Karácsony. Together with the Mayors of Bratislava and Warsaw Matús Vallo and Rafal Trzakowski, they took part in the meeting of the Mayors of V4 Capitals.
The Mayors exchanged experience in the management of the Capitals and agreed, e.g. to coordinate positions on EU funds. Their signing the Pact of Free Cities attracted much attention of both Hungarian and foreign media. The Pact, which you find attached below, marked an official start of intensive cooperation between the V4 Capitals. Mayors will meet again in June 2020 in Warsaw.
Zdeněk Hřib and his delegation on this occasion visited our Embassy. We talked about partnerships of Czech and Hungarian towns and villages, and about opportunities for Prague to join in through cultural projects or those linked to smart city, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology. The Mayor also greeted Hungarian students of the Czech language while having their regular lesson.
