On April 16, 2024, the Embassy of the Czech Republic together with the Polish and Slovak Embassies in Budapest organised a panel discussion entitled: "20/25 years in the zone of peace, security and stability - anniversary of the V4 countries' accession to NATO".
The event was opened with opening remarks by Czech Ambassador Eva Dvořáková, Slovak Ambassador Pavol Hamžík, Polish Ambassador Sebastian Keciek and Director of the Security Policy Department of the HU MFA Gyula Somogyi. This was followed by an expert table where all V4 countries were represented by experts on both security issues and Central Europe. The panelists were Martin Svárovský (KAS Prague, CZ), Tomáš Strážay (SFPA, SK), Andrzej Sadecki (OSW, PL) and Tamás Baranyi (HIIA, HU), moderated by András Rácz (DGAP, Corvinus University).
The presentations not only recapitulated what NATO membership means for the V4 countries in the context of their historical experience, but also how they are responding to the current situation in Europe from a foreign policy, strategic, security and defence perspective, especially in light of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and Russia's hostile behaviour towards the democratic West. There was a consensus that the fact that "We are NATO" is crucial for the future of Central Europe.
The event, which took place in the framework of the CZ V4 PRES, attracted the attention of about 80 interested students, experts and diplomatic staff.
