Architectural Cooperation of Visegrad group

On 9th March 2019 Presidents of National Architects Associations signed an agreement on the renewal and reinforcement of the Architectural Partnership of the Visegrad group. The Embassy of the Czech Republic considers this Partnership a step confirming a close relationship between architects and architectural institutions of Visegrad countries, and a step leading in future to their broader and deeper contacts in practical terms.

The Czech Embassy and the Czech Centre in Budapest have been actively promoting Czech architecture and thus contributing to the exchange sharing of knowledge, experiences and impressions in this area. In 2016, there were two exhibitions; first about current Czech, Slovak and Hungarian landscape architectures and second about Brno´s Villa Tugendhat, a functionalist piece of art by Mies Van der Rohe recognised by UNESCO. Debates and lecture on Villa´ restoration followed. Together with the Association of Hungarian Architects in 2017, the 40th anniversary of founding the Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University in Prague was marked. Last autumn the Czech Centre co-organised the photo exhibition Modern Staircase by Ester Havlová. Also last year in Budapest and Debrecen, we recalled through an exhibition 150th anniversary of Czech Institution of Structural and Civil Engineers. Another example was the international project Wine and Architecture presented in Budapest Centre of Architecture FUGA. When speaking about architecture the residence of the Czech Ambassador by Jiří Buček must not stay omitted. Completed in 2000, it ranks among the most significant architectural works in Hungary. Currently, in the project INSPIRELI students of architecture throughout the world compete for a building of new Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa.

We wish current and future architects of our countries to succeed in Addis Ababa and elsewhere. May Visegrad cooperation contribute to these successes!
