ELI ERIC presentation to the embassies in Budapest

The most modern and largest international laser research infrastructure in the world, ELI, based in the Czech Republic, introduced itself to science diplomats in Hungary.

On February 24, 2026, the presentation of the world-unique ELI ERIC laser project took place at the premises of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences with the aim of supporting the interest of other countries to expand the existing member and observer states. The main speakers were:

  • Allen Weeks, Director General, ELI ERIC
  • Gábor Szabó, Managing Director, ELI ALPS

ELI ERIC (Extreme Light Infrastructure European Research Infrastructure Consortium) is the world's largest and most advanced high-power laser infrastructure and a global technology and innovation leader in high-power, high-intensity, and short-pulsed laser systems. These systems are used to perform experiments in a wide range of scientific fields including physical, material, chemical, biological and medical sciences, as well as multidisciplinary studies.

ELI ERIC is based in Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic, where the ELI Beamlines research center is located. Another research center - ELI ALPS - is located in Szeged, Hungary.
