President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă paid an official visit to Czechia

Upon the invitation of the President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil, the President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă paid an official two-day visit to Czechia on 3rd and 4th April. The visit included a busy programme of high-level meetings with the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, the Prime Minister, Petr Fiala, the President of the Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, the Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Věra Kovářová, the Minister of Defence, Jana Černochová, and the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Pavel Fischer.
Discussions with senior officials confirmed the upward course of Czech-Romanian bilateral relations, the potential for developing cooperation in the fields of defence industry, nuclear energy, engineering, renewable energy and tourism, as well as the common interest in intensifying cooperation in NATO's eastern flank. All participants welcomed Romania's accession to the Schengen area with air and maritime borders and expressed support for the earliest possible accession with land borders.
In the premises of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic presidents discussed the topics of European security, energy security and nuclear energy during their joint meeting. The two Presidents thus followed up on the joint meetings they had in Romania in November.
On the occasion of the visit, the "Eminescu Linden Tree" was planted in Prague 2 to commemorate the memory of one of the most important Romanian national poets, Mihai Eminescu. The unveiling of the stone with the plaque was also part of the ceremony. The visit also included a commemoration ceremony for the fallen soldiers of the First and Second World War at the Tomb of the Unknown Hero in the National Memorial at Vítkov and a tour of the Army Museum Žižkov.
