Ambassador Jakub Skalník visited school of awarded student in the Lidice children competition

The Czech Ambassador to Belgium, Jakub Skalník, visited a school in Huldenberg, where he personally presented a diploma to eight-year-old Ioana Iacomi for her success at The International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice (ICEFA Lidice).

Ioana won an award in this year's competition with the theme "PLAY" for her painting of two girls playing, which is currently on display at an exhibition in Lidice. Children and teachers prepared a beautiful program for this festive occasion, which included singing by the school choir. The atmosphere was friendly and reminded us that art can connect cultures across borders. Together with the Czech ambassador, Romanian ambassador Andreea Pastarnac, and the mayor of Huldenberg, Danny Vangoidtsenhoven, spoke at the ceremony.

The ICEFA Lidice was established in 1967 in memory of the children who were victims of the Nazi massacre in Lidice during World War II, but also commemorates all other children affected by war conflicts around the world.

Ambassador Jakub Skalník thanked the students and teachers of the school in Huldenberg for their creative approach and for keeping alive the legacy of the children of Lidice – a message of peace, friendship, and humanity.
