Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies 2019

Scholarships for Summer School of Slavonic Studies 2019 offering intensive Czech language and culture courses.

The Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies offering intensive Czech language courses are organised by several public universities in the Czech Republic: Charles University (Faculty of Arts, Prague), Charles University Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies, Poděbrady, Masaryk University (Faculty of Arts, Brno), Palacký University in Olomouc (Faculty of Arts, Olomouc), University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (Faculty of Arts, České Budějovice) and the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. The courses are held during the summer months (July – September), their length ranges from 3 to 4 weeks depending on the course content determined by each Summer School and are designed for foreign students, teachers, translators and interpreters and other experts active in the field of Czech/Slavonic studies. Due to their broad scope they are, however, open to anyone else who is interested in the Czech language, literature, history and culture. The Summer Schools offer language courses at various levels of proficiency, seminars on the Czech literature, culture and history, free-time activities including theatrical, musical and dance performances, trips etc.

Scholarship includes:

  • Free board and lodging (incl. breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • coverage of course fees,
  • free access to cultural events, trips organized within a Summer School course.

Scholarship does not include:

  • International transport costs,
  • Costs connected to Visa issuance,
  • Insurance costs.

Who can apply?

For 2019, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic (MEYS) offers 8 scholarships for participation in the Summer School courses to applicants from Belgium:

Application should be accompanied with a Curriculum Vitae written in Czech or English. The competent receiving authority may require other documents (such as cover letter, certificate on language skills etc..)

Scholarships can only be awarded to applicants who are nominated by the competent authorities (Flemish Government, Wallonie-Bruxelles)

Summer School courses are open also to foreign nationals who do not hold or cannot apply for the aforementioned scholarships and wish to bear the related expenses themselves. Applications are to be filed directly with the selected faculty/institute in this case.
