Information for applicants on personal data protection

By establishing the Schengen Area, its Member States abolished controls at their internal borders and removed obstacles to free movement. In oder to ensure effective functioning and security of the Schengen Area, personal data are processed in the EU information systems for the purposes of deciding on visas and maintaining security.
