Direct railway connection to the Antwerp´s port

On its meeting on 16th April 2015 the Single European Rail Area Committee approved the accession of the Czech Republic to the Executive Council of the European Rail Freight Corridor North Sea – Baltic Sea (http://www.rfc8.eu/). This favorable decision was preceded by an active work of the Czech diplomacy, in particular by the representatives of the Ministry of Transportation and The Railway Infrastructure Administration with the European Commission and member states.

The accession of the Czech Republic to the Rail Freight Corridor will enable a direct railway connection between Belgian port of Antwerp and the region of Central Europe which will widen the offer of transport options of the Czech exporting and importing companies. Distribution centers in Prague, Brno, Přerov, Lovosice /Česká Třebova and in Ostrava-Paskov are the destinations in Czech Republic connected to the Port of Antwerp with a frequency of three connections per week for each destination. The strengthening of the potential of railway freight connections is undoubtedly an opportunity for Czech exporters and importers.

It represents also an important step towards the EU commitment formulated in the White Book according to which the EU objective is to shift 30 % of the volume of the route freight transport to more environmentally friendly modes of transport at the distances above 300 kilometers by 2030.
