Ambassador Jakub Skalník’s Exploratory Visit to the Einstein Telescope

Ambassador Jakub Skalník and colleagues from other Central European countries participated in a presentation of the Einstein Telescope project on Thursday, November 21, at the invitation of the Flemish government. The event took place in Genk, Limburg Province.

This unique facility is designed to measure gravitational waves generated by collisions of black holes and other cosmic objects from the period shortly after the Big Bang.

This "gateway to the universe" could be built in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, at the intersection of Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The group also visited the laboratories at Maastricht University, where the planned project is being tested using a prototype.

The goal of the visit was to familiarize diplomatic representatives from Central European countries with opportunities for governments, companies, and academic institutions to participate in the project's development, construction, and subsequent use.
