Official visit of Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka, met the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Charles Michel, in the Straka Academy in Prague on Thursday 4th May 2017. They were discussing bilateral relationships, current issues regarding the European Union as well as other international topics.

Besides other things they also talked about economic and scientific cooperation together with future plans concerning the European Union and other questions connected to migration, safety and defence policy. Another issue widely debated was possible cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium and other countries of Benelux with the countries belonging to the Visegrad Group.

When commenting on international topics, they mainly focused on terrorism issues and  on the situation of the Middle East and Ukraine along with the protection of society from cybernetics attacks and disinformation extensively distributed by media.

The last meeting of both prime ministers took place on the fringes of the European Council meeting in Brussels in 2014. The last visit of a Belgian prime minister in the Czech Republic happened in 2004 when the Republic was visited by Guy Verhofstadt.
