Czech Embassy participates in commemorative events on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Deputy Head of Mission  Pavel Kobližka participated in a commemorative ceremony at the Dossin Barracks in Mechelen on 27 January 2025.

Together with other participants, he laid a wreath at the memorial to the victims of Nazi genocide on behalf of the Czech Embassy. Pavel Kobližka then visited the Holocaust and Human Rights Museum in Mechelen. Almost 26 000 people were deported from the Dossin barracks to extermination camps, mainly Auschwitz. Only a small number of them survived.

On 20 January 2025, Pavel Kobližka attended the concert “Songs from Terezienstadt” dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. The programme in the Great Synagogue in Brussels consisted of songs by composers deported to Terezienstadt and then to the extermination camps. In his opening remarks, the Czech diplomat recalled the cultural life in the Terezienstadt and stressed the importance of commemorating the Holocaust at a time of growing anti-Semitism.
