Requirements for Schengen visa (in English)

Information to apply for a short-term (Schengen) visa at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Brasília.

Short-term visa (Schengen visa) is issued for short stays in the territory of the countries of the Schengen Area for ​​a maximum of 90 days within each period of 180 days. The list of countries whose citizens need a visa to enter the Czech Republic/Schengen Area is available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Brasília accepts visa applications ONLY from applicants residing in the Federal District (DF) and in the following states of Brazil: AC, AL, AM, AP, BA, CE, GO, MA, MT, PA, PB, PE, PI, RN, RO, RR, SE and TO; as well as from applicants residing in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and in the Republic of Suriname. Applicants residing in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Espírito Santo need to apply for visa at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in São Paulo.

All the applicants must schedule their interview in advance through the email brasilia.consulate@mzv.gov.cz and submit their visa application in person.

The Czech embassy will only accept a Schengen visa application if the Czech Republic is the only or main destination or if the Czech Republic is the country where the applicant will stay the longest compared to the stay in other countries of the Schengen Area during the trip.

In case of a foreign citizen (who is not a citizen of Brazil/Guyana/Suriname), only those with a valid residence permit of Brazil/Guyana/Suriname may apply for visa at the Czech embassy in Brasilia. Foreign tourists and temporary visitors without a valid long-term or permanent residence permit must apply for a Schengen visa in their country of origin.

Applications for Schengen visa may be lodged between 6 months and 15 days before the start of the trip. Visa applications are processed within 15 days. In exceptional cases the processing period may be extended to up to 45 days.


Requirements for Schengen visa
 

  1. visa application form (visa_schengen (PDF, 150 KB))
  2. a recent color photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background)
  3. passport, with a validity of at least three months beyond the expected departure date from the Schengen Area, with at least two blank pages, having been issued in the previous ten years
  4. a copy of the passport page with personal data/photo
  5. Carteira de Registro Nacional Migratório (National Migratory Registration Card) proving the applicant's legal residence permit in Brazil, valid for at least three months beyond the expected departure date from the Schengen Area; corresponding document in case of foreigners residing in Guyana/Suriname
  6. a copy of the residence permit card
  7. a copy of all previous Schengen, UK, US, Canadian or Australian visas
  8. documents proving the reason/purpose of stay: confirmation of the travel agency or other documents proving the travel plans and itinerary; invitation of a company or an official authority to meetings, conferences or commercial, business or professional events; original of the official invitation authorized by the Czech Immigration Police, etc.
  9. documents regarding accommodation during the entire stay in the Schengen Area: hotel reservations, original of the official invitation authorized by the Czech Immigration Police, etc.
  10. booking of a return air ticket and reservations of all transfers within the Schengen Area
  11. travel health insurance for the entire period of stay in the Schengen Area: with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 (thirty thousand) and with a deductible of EUR 0 (zero); the insurance must cover repatriation for medical reasons, urgent need for medical attention and emergency hospital treatment; may be issued only by an authorized insurance company
  12. proof of sufficient financial funds/resources to cover the costs of subsistence for both the intended stay and the return trip: bank statements of the applicant's bank account from the last 3 months
  13. a copy of the applicant's international debit or credit card (front side only)
  14. proof of employment: proof of income (paystubs/payslips from the last 3 months) and confirmation from the employer including applicant's name, work position, starting date and length of contract; last income tax return (Declaração de Imposto de Renda); proof of studies in the case of students
  15. other documents to assess the applicant's intention to leave the Schengen Area, for example: proof of residence (electricity, water, gas or cable TV bills); proof of integration in the country of residence (family ties, professional status, property ownership), etc.
  16. visa fee in cash in reais (the applicant will be informed of the current visa fee value by email when scheduling the interview)

Important: Make sure to deliver the complete documentation (in original)! Incomplete applications may lead to a visa refusal. We kindly ask you to organize the documents in the order mentioned above. Please note that in certain cases it may still be necessary to submit other documents.
