The lecture by the former NATO spokesperson and Distinguished Fellow, Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London, Ms. Oana Lungescu, on 24 October 2024 at the World Trade Institute at the University of Bern was very well received.
Oana Lungescu came to Bern at the invitation of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Berne as NATO Contact Point Embassy to Switzerland and the La Suisse en Europe Association (ASE) to talk about the communication challenges for NATO in the wake of the Russian aggression in Ukraine. She summarised her experience and lessons learned from her time at NATO since 2010, through the main changes the Alliance has undergone, to the last enlargement to include Finland and Sweden. In her brilliant lecture, she stressed the need for proactive, fact-based communication to prevent the spread of disinformation, but also appealed to the importance of NATO's international cooperation with its partners in Europe and beyond.
The lecture, which was also the last event organised by the Czech Embassy in its role as a NATO Contact Point Embassy to Switzerland during its two years mission, was opened by Professor Thomas Cottier, President of La Suisse en Europe, and Ambassador of the Czech Republic Tomáš Jan Podivínský. In a fully packed hall at the University of Bern, guests included Swiss institutions, students and the diplomatic corps of allied and partner countries.
