The Czech Republic implemented a small local project in Lebanon aimed at improving the livelihoods of small farmers and women in the Chouf region

This year, the Czech Republic supported a small local project with the amount of CZK 450,000, which aimed to contribute to improving the livelihoods of the village of Gharifeh in the Chouf region. The equipment for processing lavender and other local products for a community kitchen was purchased. This project was implemented by the non-profit organization Farah Social Foundation.

The agri-food sector is a vital source of income for many households in the Chouf region, especially for rural women, who often face limited economic opportunities. This project followed on from a previous initiative by the Farah Social Foundation (FSF) in Gharifeh, where lavender was grown and processed into oil and water. This year's project included equipment for a community kitchen for rural women, enabling the extraction of locally grown lavender into lavender oil and the preparation of jams and preserves. The sale of the products produced in the kitchen will help the women generate a sustainable income and contribute to the development of the local economy. FSF also plans to create a training program for women in the region to help them grow products in a sustainable and healthy way, in accordance with the regulations on sustainable agriculture. The project will ultimately create a sustainable and inclusive value chain for rural women in the Chouf region.
