Marathon runner Jitka Kížová visited the Czech Embassy in Beijing

Czech marathon runner Jitka Kížová stayed at the Embassy in Beijing during her visit on 9. – 13. May 2015. Jitka was preparing for the prestigious Great Wall Marathon, which is one of the most difficult runs in its category. The runners must overcome more than 5000 steps in 30°C in less than 8 hours. 900 runners from 80 countries participated in the main competition. The Embassy staff supported Jitka during her run and also assisted with transfer back to Beijing from the Great Wall.
Back in the Czech Republic Jitka helps blind runners as a running guide. In China she ran in the yellow t-shirt of Světlo pro svět (Light for the World) foundation and so supported its project 1000 Eyes for Africa. Its aim is to collect enough financial means for 1000 eye surgeries for visually impaired in developing countries.  Jitka will auction her medal from the Marathon in order to collect money for this purpose. Several Czech TV channels and radio stations have noticed her journey for the good cause to China.
Jitka financed her whole trip by crowdfunding, i.e. on-line project funding with relatively modest contributions from a large group of individuals. After collecting enough money, she addressed directly the Embassy. She impressed the whole staff with her story, her ambition for the next year is to participate together with a blind runner. We wish Jitka all the best with her continuing efforts of working with the blind people and look forward to welcoming her again next year.
