On 28 October, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing held a reception to mark the national holiday. In addition to celebrating the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the independent Czechoslovak state, the event also commemorated the 180th anniversary of the birth of composer Antonín Dvořák. His compositions accompanied the event and an exhibition in the Ambassador's residence also commemorated the composer.
Ambassador Vladimír Tomšík opened the event, which was attended by more than 200 guests, including representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC. In his speech, he spoke about the above-mentioned dates and other anniversaries, such as the centenary of the birth of Zdeněk Miler, the author of the Little Mole, a cartoon which is popular in China, or the 60th anniversary of the death of the prominent Czech economist Karel Engliš. He also highlighted the current success of Czech companies on the Chinese market.
