For the second time the Czech Embassy in Beijing organized a Christmas celebration for Czech language students from several universities. Undergraduate students from Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang together with their teachers spent an afternoon at the Embassy. Gingerbread decorating was selected as the best way how the students can get to know more about Czech Christmas traditions.
Chargé d´affaires Ms Klara Jurcova and Diplomat Mr Ondrej Wagner welcomed over 80 students at the Embassy on December 17. For the majority of them this was the first time they could experience Christmas festivities. Later on in their studies they will all spend one academic year in Czech Republic. Czech Language is currently being taught at 9 universities in 8 cities across China. In addition to Beijing, the traditional centre of Czech Studies, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Chengdu Universities now also offer Czech. In 2019 we expect additional higher education institutions to offer Czech language courses or programs.
Teaching Czech language in China would not be possible without the personal commitment of the Czech teacher, close cooperation between Czech and Chinese universities and financial contribution from the Czech Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs.
