Václav Havel and the anniversary of the year 1989 at Chulalongkorn University

(This article expired 30.06.2020 / 02:00.)

The Embassy in cooperation with the Center for European Studies of the Chulalongkorn University organized on November 25 book launch of the translation of the “Letter to Dr. Husák” from 1975, in which Václav Havel defined a dissent manifesto against the ongoing normalization process in Czechoslovakia.

The publication was printed in 1000 copies with the financial support of the Embassy. During the launch of the publication, a discussion panel took place on the role of Václav Havel and the importance of philosophy and values he represented.

Within the framework of the event, exhibitions “1989 As Seen By Photographers” and “Václav Havel in a Nutshell” were installed. The Embassy also provided seven photographs documenting Václav Havel's state visit to Thailand in 1994 and his meeting with Rama IX.

The exhibitions will be exhibited in the central library of Chulalongkorn University until December 20, which is also the final phase of students' preparation for the final exams. The library is open for them 24 hours a day, and it is the period with the highest attendance throughout the year. This will allow the above-mentioned exhibitions to display to the Thai young generation the historical significance of Václav Havel and the events of the year 1989.
