Information regarding language (during interviews at the consulate) with applicants for residence permits

In accordance with the provisions of Section 57, Paragraph 2, Section 169k, Paragraph 1 and Section 169, Paragraph 1 of Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Residence of Foreigners in the Territory of the Czech Republic and on Amendments to Certain Acts, the consulate may conduct an interview with the applicant for a residence permit. The interview is conducted in Czech, but may also be conducted in English or Russian. If the applicant does not have a sufficient command of either of these languages, he or she is obliged to arrange an interpreter at his or her own expense. An interpreter may primarily be a person registered in the list of interpreters and translators, which is available at https://seznat.justice.cz. The consulate may exceptionally appoint another person as an interpreter, provided that he or she has the language skills at the level necessary to perform the interpreting task and proves this (for example, by a document on an internationally recognized exam in the relevant language at a minimum level of B2, a school-leaving certificate or in another appropriate manner). A person whose impartiality may be doubted due to his or her relationship to the case, to the parties to the proceedings or to their representatives cannot be appointed as an interpreter.
